She fell to the ground and managed to get the scissors in her hands. She flipped them open and started cutting through the rope, as the other blade dug into the palm of her hand. It was a long a tedious process, but when she felt her hands loosen, it was worth it.
She quickly un-gagged herself, taking a deep breath of almost fresh air. Then, proceeded towards untying her legs. She inspected her wound and saw there was a small splinter in her arm. Grinding her teeth, she pulled it out and then took the gag that had been tied around her mouth and tied it around her arm, so she didn't lose too much blood.
Then, she stretched and it was a beautiful feeling.
She was free.
Now, all she wanted to do was kick Caleb Rocha's ass, not an easy task for a math professor, but she was trying to stay positive.
Her positivity only lasted until she got to the door. She tried to open it but it didn't open. She tried again, and that was when her optimism died. The bloody door was locked. It was almost like they though that Kelsey would try to get away.
They were right, of course, but this obstacle was an unwanted one. But that was all it was. An obstacle, one that Kelsey could easily overcome. She'd managed to get out of being tied up to a chair. A locked door was hardly an obstacle.
She got her new best friend, the pair of scissors, and inserted one side into the lock forcefully, until she heard something inside of it break. Smiling victoriously, she quickly and slowly pulled the door open and peering outside.
Empty.
There was no one there. Looking around, Kelsey realized she was in some kind of warehouse. There were boxes of something everywhere. Hesitantly stepping out of the room, she went over to one of the boxes and ripped the tape off, pulling it open. It was filled with chucky Styrofoam bits. It wasn't dusty so Kelsey assumed that it had been brought here recently.
She grabbed chunks of it, tossing it to the ground until something black came into view. What is that? She didn't need to even wonder. She could tell from the outline of the object what it was, but she was in awe, because she'd never been so close to one, before. Well, that wasn't true, because Alex had one, but this was different. She was alone, here.
This must be that shipment of guns that she'd heard Caleb Rocha talking to Tiger about when they'd thought she was unconscious.
Gingerly, she picked it up, weighing the gun in her hands. The metal felt cold under her fingers and a buzz ran through Kelsey's spine because she had a gun in her hands. It was exhilarating. She felt like this was the most exciting moment in her life.
She had a gun in her hands and she was completely alone. Chris wasn't there to watch her like a child. She felt a sting in her heart when she thought about Chris. She undid the safety of the gun, the same way Chris had showed her and then aimed it at the door of the room where she had been held captive. She aimed it, keeping one eye closed for effect.
Her finger hovered over the trigger before she took a deep breath and pulled it. The gun shot echoed through the warehouse. Kelsey's adrenaline was rushing. There was a perfect bullet hole on the door, almost in the area where she was aiming it.
She had been so focused on the gun and the exhilaration and excitement she'd felt when she used it, she didn't realize that she was alone.
"I told them that you'd manage to get out." Kelsey froze at the sudden sound of the cold voice she was very familiar with. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath, clutching the weapon in her hands. Slowly, she turned around.
The Kara she saw was not the one she knew. This Kara was dressed in a short leather skirt and a black tank top with boots that went up to her knees. This Kara wasn't beautiful. She was bold and sexy. Kelsey almost felt jealous of her, before reminding herself that if she wanted to, she could pull the same look off, maybe even better. "What are you doing here?"
"Did you really think you'd be able to slip away and none of us would even find out about it?" Kara asked, starkly. Her eyes narrowed down on Kelsey. "Why do you always do this? You always have to go around and prove that you're smarter than the rest of us."
"What?"
But Kara didn't stop. She was venting. "Just shut up, okay? This isn't about you, anymore. We're identical. We look the same, but you've always been smarter, haven't you? All of my plans, every plan I make, keeps getting ruined because you keep using your head."
"I don't know what you're talking about." Kelsey snapped at Kara. "Are you trying to say that you're jealous of me? I've always been jealous of you. You're the one who has a personality. The boys never come after me, because they're always too busy pursuing you."
"That never got me, anywhere." Kara snapped at Kelsey. "I'm still jobless and nobody wants to hire me. But that's okay. I've got Caleb, now. I don't need anyone else." Then, to Kelsey's horror, Kara pulled out a gun from her holster, which had been propped up on her hip. "Caleb said to leave you alone, but I can't do that. You see, I've finally got the opportunity to end this for good. I don't care if he wants to alive for whatever reason, Kelsey. I'm going to end things for good today. You're going to regret that you ever existed."
As Kara raised her gun, Alex's words flashed through Kelsey's mind.
The only difference between them and us is that we're trying to do the right thing. Otherwise, there really is no difference. Neither of us hesitates to hurt, Kelsey. When they shoot, it's to cause trouble. We end it. We have to. Otherwise, we lose.
Kelsey couldn't afford to lose. Not when she had so much to gain. She wasn't going to lose something else to Kara, again. She wasn't wrong.
In that second, her decision was made.
